Maine Smallmouth Bass

My goal as your Registered Maine Guide, is to consistently have you catching bragging size smallmouth bass. On a good day we’ll boat up to a dozen smallmouth bass. One or more may be in the 3-½ lb. range. Last year we took several in the 5 lb. class. On a bad day we might only get a few but it is unlikely that you will get skunked. And a bad day on the boat still beats a good day at work ! Using a range of traditional bass fishing techniques and some developed over the years on local smallmouth bass habitats. The fish are reliably eager and nothing is scrappier than a smallmouth from our cold clear lakes and rivers. The cold waters and cool evenings of the north woods keep the fish in, or adjacent to, shallow water for unmatched action with top water lures and flies. Fly-fishing for these bruisers is a real experience and fly-fishing for smallmouth bass in Maine is an unexploited fishery. As a bass fishing specialist, it is my treat to share some unspoiled and under fished hot spots with a small group of fishermen. My boat has a casting platform, removable pedestal seats, electric motor and all the necessary accessories to make your day safe, comfortable, and productive. We generally release all the fish but if you wish to keep a trophy for mounting that is okay too. Two adults and two children are the limit. Beginners are welcome. Bass fishing tips and even fly fishing bass techniques are readily shared. If you want to introduce your kids to fishing we can visit some spots for smaller bass and other fish where the action is fast and the smiles are frequent and big! You can use your own gear and bass fishing lures or mine. The essential gear will be provided including locally proven lures and the best smallmouth bass flies, but if you have some favorites by all means bring them. Sometimes, a new lure or fly that the fish have never seen, could be just the ticket!

Small Pond Fishing
We offer small pond fishing for brook trout and salmon. There are numerous small trout ponds in our area of Maine where we stash 12’ aluminum boats, which we can easily launch with a two horse motor. Some of these ponds have not been stocked so you will catch truly native brook trout and the restrictions on these ponds make them trophy trout ponds. A few of these ponds are fly-fishing only, but most are restricted to artificial lures only. The choice is up to you whether you want to spin fish or fly-fish for these native trout. We offer both half and whole day trips, and recommend booking for the spring and fall seasons, when the waters are cooler temperatures. A whole day trip includes a shore lunch provided by the guide which can be custom fit to your taste. Small Pond fishing is restricted to only two clients this ensure that you receive the full attention of the guide. $200 Half Day $300 Whole Day
Big Water Fishing (Trolling)
If catching fish to eat is what you desire we offer trolling fishing trips on Lower Wilson Pond and several other large bodies of water in the Moosehead area. We have a fully equipped 24’ boat that can accommodate up to four people. Wilson Pond produces Land Locked Salmon, Lake Trout and Brook Trout. Every year there are always a couple of trophy Lake Trout (Togue) pulled from the deep waters of Wilson Pond. Anyone has the opportunity to hook onto one of these monsters while fishing with Young’s Guide Service. These fish are mostly caught by trolling the waters. This is a great trip for someone who might not be able to walk far or someone who just wants to sit back and enjoy the great view’s while catching fish. We only offer half day trips simply because the best trolling times are first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening.
