Specializing in Private Moose Safari Tours

Maine Moose Safari's and Wildlife AdventuresSo you want to get up close to the largest animal in the north woods? We will visit remote ponds and paddle canoes right into the prime moose habitat. There are more moose in Maine than anywhere else in the lower 48 and the Moosehead Lake region around Greenville, Maine has a density of more than 1.3 moose per square mile. Your Registered Maine Guide, Chris, was raised in the woods and on the waters of Maine and knows the area like his own backyard. Chris has spent much of his life learning the habits and "language" of the moose and by gaining this knowledge Chris earned the title of the 2013 National Moose Calling Champion. He will guide you to the best locations in prime moose habitat and position you up close for a memorable encounter and some great moose photos! Our moose tours have over 90% viewing success.

Private Morning or Evening tours are only $87.50 per person
(Based on two people, kids under 6 free) $25 each additional family member

What to expect on your Maine Moose Safari

Maine Moose Safaris in Greenville MaineOur private Maine moose tours are scheduled around the best viewing times, the first and last four hours of daylight. It’s a spectacular time of the day for your Maine wildlife tour when the woods and waters are alive with activity and prime for moose watching. Chris will pick you up in town or at your lodging if you are here for your Maine family vacation. On your ride to the remote ponds you will learn some moose facts, get your questions answered by your knowledgeable Guide and get some photography tips for better moose pictures as well. Group size is limited, 1 to 4 family members, so you’ll have lots of personal attention. Keep your camera ready as we often see Maine wildlife like eagle, deer, fox and other animals on the ride in. It’s like a bonus Maine wildlife tour and an opportunity for additional wildlife pictures or a chance to see moose tracks along the road.

Canoe and Kayak along side Maine MooseAt the shore, your canoe will be waiting for your moose watch. No experience is needed; Chris will provide instruction, life preservers and paddles. You’ll spend the next couple of hours on the water. Aside from the dripping of water off your paddle, you will hear the majestic cry of loons, maybe the screech of an osprey or eagle. You might see beavers, muskrats or maybe even an elusive mink.

Then, as you round a point, or scan the far shoreline, you’ll see the largest wild animal this side of the Mississippi, the Maine moose! It could be a cow (female moose) with a calf (baby moose) but about 20% of the time it will be a lone bull (male moose). Your guide will lead you to an optimal approach and often get you close enough to see the water dripping as the moose feeds on aquatic vegetation. Now try to steady your shaking hands and get some great close up moose pictures!

Guided Maine Moose Safari'sFunny moose antics, baby moose or bull moose pictures, they all are great when you are in the best locations for wildlife photography.

If yours is a full day trip, Chris will select a secluded spot for a shore lunch after the moose have left the water to bed down for the day. Your guide will do all he can to make this your best vacation in Maine.

In June the bulls have just started their annual growth of moose antlers and the cows have calved one or two baby moose. July is the period of rapid antler growth for the bulls. By mid September they have shed the velvet covering and sport the hard moose antlers for the breeding season which lasts through early October. At this time the bulls often aggressively respond to calling. Many Maine outfitters consider this one of the most unique things to do in Maine and a highpoint of outdoor recreation.

"every day I am thankful that I get to live in Maine's Moosehead Lake region. God's creation is so full of beauty and awe. I want to share with you my knowledge and appreciation of the wildlife our mountains and waters." Chris Young, Greenville

"We saw several moose on our safari – one female allowed us to watch her for nearly 30 minutes. The peace and tranquility of being in a canoe, on a beautiful lake in Maine as the sun set and observing moose in their natural habitat – was a dream come true."

Mike and Jean, Massachusetts

"I enjoyed your moose safari more then anything I have done in a long time. I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat. We saw several moose and within about 20 feet; but always felt safe. I also saw other wildlife along the way."

Nancy C., Michigan

"Thank you Chris for bringing us as close as we ever want to be to a bull moose!  We sat quietly in our kayaks in 5 to 6 feet of crystal clear water watching a moose at close range surrounded by beautiful Maine scenery."

Reed Family, Massachusetts
